Pittston to Jim Thorpe fall foliage trains to feature 5 seating options

PORT CLINTON — For its highly-anticipated second year of Fall Foliage trains originating from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Regional Railroad Station at Pittston, Reading & Northern Railroad’s Passenger Department is adding a unique, new seating option.

For those looking for a more traditional train ride, the familiar Standard Coach, Crown Class Coach, Vista Class Dome, and Lounge Observation cars return in 2024.

Tickets range in price from $49 (standard coach) to $210 (lounge observation).

All riders must have a ticket regardless of age.

Tickets for these seating options may be purchased by phone at the same number or online at — www.RBMNRR-passenger.com.

Fall Foliage Season will span five weekends, beginning Saturday, Oct. 5, and concluding Sunday, Nov. 3. All trains depart Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Regional Railroad Station at Pittston at 8:45 a.m. sharp.

A station stop at Penobscot (Mountain Top) will be made to board more standard coach passengers, and the train will arrive at Jim Thorpe at 11:05 a.m. Guests will have more than four hours to explore historic Jim Thorpe before departing at 3:40 p.m.

Pullman car #1127, the Schuylkill River, is the new seating option joining the consist of the Pittston to Jim Thorpe trains this year. The car was originally built in 1954 for the Boston & Maine Railroad as the Salisbury Beach and used on the State of Maine Express between Concord, NH, and New York, NY.

It is composed of eight private rooms, six of which can accommodate two passengers and the other two can accommodate four passengers. There is also a common area within the car that passengers are welcome to visit at any time. The entire car is fully climate-controlled, and light refreshments will be offered to guests during the trip.

The double-occupancy rooms aboard Schuylkill River may be reserved for $149 each. One ticket is valid for up to two passengers. The quadruple-occupancy rooms sell for $398 each, and a single ticket is valid for up to four passengers.

With the limited number of rooms available for each trip, tickets will likely sell quickly. Schuylkill River tickets are available only by phone at 610-562-2102 (8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. daily).
