AH school board to vote on mediator’s proposal at tonight’s meeting

According to Abington Heights Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Mahon, the school board will vote on a proposal for a new teachers’ contract, offered by state mediator Dan O’Rourke during a Sept. 10 negotiating meeting between the board and teachers’ union, at tonight’s regular business meeting.Mahon added that O’Rourke constructed the new proposal based on the fact-finding report issued in May that was accepted by the school board but rejected by the teachers’ union because he felt the report was the closest the sides have ever come to settling all the issues.


Prep grad receives scholarship at Pitt-Bradford

Hannah Van Vliet, of Factoryville, an undeclared student at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, has received a Panther Scholarship from the university.Panther merit scholarships are awarded to students at the time of their admission based on SAT and ACT scores and high school grades and can range from $2,000 to $11,500 per year.Van Vliet graduated from Scranton Preparatory School.
