Scranton Preparatory School announced today that Matthew R. Bernard has been appointed as the new Principal. Bernard was chosen after the school conducted a national search for the position. He will take office on July 1st of this year.
Bernard has been associated with Scranton Prep since the year 2000. He has served as Director of Alumni, Director of Service Programs, School Counselor, Social Studies teacher and Student Council moderator. In addition, since 2006, he has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Scranton. Bernard, a native of New Jersey, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling and Human Services and a Master of Science degree in School Counseling from the University of Scranton. He is a National Certified Counselor and a Pennsylvania Certified School Counselor. Bernard is also a graduate of the Ignatian Leadership Seminars sponsored by the Jesuit Secondary Education Association.
In announcing the selection, Rev. Herbert B. Bernard and his wife, Rebekah, are the parents of two children, Annabeth and Jack. They are parishioners of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Clarks Summit.
Bernard will succeed Patrick J. Marx, who served as Principal at Prep for eleven years. Marx will become the school‚??s Director of Mission and Identity this summer.
